Some farmers are gifted with the skill that their hands can build what the mind comes up with. This creation comes from one of such people. When Dutch arable farmers Gebr. Chardon couldn’t find what they were looking for, they simply build it themselves!
This all in one potato planter is truly a unique piece of kit. It combines a four row (75cm) potato planter and PTO powered rotary ridger. The planter elements come from an old Hassia machine, and have been modified to take the slow speed of 3,5kph. The ridger is from Baselier and, although some decades old, updated with the newest ridging bodies. Everything was build in the farm workshop, including the modified front mounted GLB hook tine ridger.
On this heavy but fertile polder clay soil it is difficult creating the full ridge in one pass with standard ridging bodies. In order to save time and money the idea was created to combine planting and PTO powered ridging in a single machine. The beauty is that it takes little horsepower and not so much pulling power. The Deutz-Fahr Agrotron K120 has been chipped and now pushes out 140 HP on the PTO shaft, which is more than sufficient. The combination usually works straight into ploughed land, although this headland had been levelled with a power harrow to eradicate wheel marks.
