Onions are harvested in a unique way in this video. We see a Fendt 936 Vario, driving in reverse, using a 3m wide Keulmac onion harvester. The machine was purpose build by the manufacturer for this task and it is unique. The tractor driver can turn the seat and controls 180 degrees so the whole outfit operates the same, only in reverse. A big weight is needed as a counterbalance for the topper + lifter, which lifts 2 1.50m beds.
The big advantage of using this system is that the tractor can run on wide tyres as opposed to row crop tyres, usually needed for this task. It means the whole unit sits level and all the onions are left in a big swath, which are lifted up later when they have sufficiently dried.
